More details about the country
Bhutan is a south-central Asian country, located on the eastern ridges of the Himalayas, a mountain ridge that is home to some of the world’s highest peaks including Mount Everest. It is a sovereign state which until the second half of the 20th century was in isolation as a remote kingdom. Because of its location between India’s Assam-Bengal Plain to the south and southwestern China’s Plateau of Tibet to the north, Bhutan has considerable geopolitical significance. This is highly reflected in its history. It is a constitutional monarchy with two legislative houses with King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk as the head of state. To the west and north, Bhutan neighbors with Tibet with the boundary generally following the crest of the Great Himalayas. To the south, the country borders the Indian states of West Bengal and Assam and to the east and southwest – the states of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, respectively. The capital of the sovereign state is Thimphu.
Bhutan is quite often recommended as an exotic location worth exploring due to its culture and beauty. However, it can also be a valuable stepping stone in furthering one’s education by obtaining an academic degree. The country itself does not have an extensive list of available universities. However, it does provide a rather broad and in-depth list of fields/subjects a student can choose from. Examples include Management, Humanities, Technology, Agriculture, Business, Engineering, Ecology, History, and Medicine. There are also subjects such as Natural Sciences, Culturology, Sociology, Philosophy, Archeology, Architecture, Hospitality, Cosmetology, and Arts. Most of the institutions can be found in the capital, but there are some which are located in other cities. For instance, the Jigme Namgyel Engineering College can be found in Samdrup Jongkhar, a city in the southeastern region of the country. Bhutan can also provide an opportunity to learn one or more exotic languages in addition to business ones such as English. This is due to the country having two official languages, namely English and Dzongkha, a tongue of the Tibeto-Burman language family. One should bear in mind, however, that tuition fees can vary greatly so care must be taken to check with each university in advance.
