Cuba is an independent country of the West Indies, located on the largest single island of the West Indies archipelago. It is a state which consists of about 1,600 islands, islets, and cays with a combined area of 42,426 square miles. The capital and commercial hub of the country, Havana, can be found on the northwestern coast of the island. Its nearest neighbors include Haiti (48 miles to the east), Jamaica (87 miles to the south), the Bahamas (50 miles off the northern coast) and the United States (90 miles to the north). It is a country which is quite popular as a tourist destination due to its history, architecture, and nature.
