Greece

Greece, officially known as Ellinikí Dhimokratía or the Hellenic Republic, is the southernmost country on the Balkan Peninsula. It is a unitary multiparty republic with one legislative house the total land area of which surmounts to 50,949 square miles with one-fifth of it being comprised of the Greek islands. The country has more than 2,000 islands, with about 170 of them inhabited. The capital of the sovereign state is Athens, with the area around the city being the place of habitation and home of about one-third of the entire population. It is a highly popular tourist destination with the common points of interest being its beaches, the beauty of its nature, as well as its rich history.

Greece is an often-considered and highly recommended location to study abroad. While tuition fees can vary greatly, they do in general tend to be less costly compared to nations such as Belgium. However, while the country can provide quite a few benefits when it comes to higher education, there is a certain factor that should be taken into account as it can become a hindrance should it be overlooked. While there are many courses which are available in English, most are in Greek. Due to this specific, a student may have to enroll in a preparatory language course which can last from several months to a year.
