More details about the country
Guyana, often referred to as British Guiana or the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, is an independent country situated in the northeastern part of South America. It is a sovereign state which despite its abundance of natural resources such as pristine rainforests, rice fields, sugarcane plantations, as well as bauxite and gold reserves, it is quite poor economically. Guyana is considered by some geographers to be a part of the Caribbean and shares borders with Suriname, Brazil, Venezuela and has a coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. The country’s chief port of Georgetown is also its capital.
British Guiana can be a worthwhile location when it comes to studying abroad. This is due to several reasons including the range of available subjects and institutions of higher education, the tuition fees and others. While the country has a relatively limited number of universities, it does compensate by ensuring that each one is properly accredited and internationally recognized. In addition, each of the institutions offers an extensive range of subjects to study, with popular selections including Medicine, Pharmacy, Communication, Management, Business, Dentistry, Information Technologies, Education, Engineering, Ecology and International Relations. Furthermore, students have a relatively high chance of finding a long-term job within the country, especially in the fields of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry. Similarly, students who graduate Education also have high chances to find a suitable work position. Apart from these advantages, the country is also an ideal location to practice English as this language is the country’s official tongue used in government matters, everyday communication as well as education courses. In addition to the previously-mentioned, Guyana is a suitable location to gain on-field experience, especially when it comes to fields of study such as Ecology. This is due to the country providing many opportunities to participate in volunteer programs with high preference being given to ones related to Healthcare, Community Development, Education, Gender Equality and Environment Conservation. However, there are several factors which a student should consider in advance lest they become hindrances. To begin with, universities often have a limited number of available course openings and as a result the institutions may not be able to accommodate all students wishing to study in its programs. Also, tuition fees can vary greatly depending on the institution selected and students need to handle medical and living expenses.
