    More details about the country

Hong Kong (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Hsiang-kang, Xianggang Tebie Xingzhengqu) is one of China’s special administrative regions. It is situated to the east of the Xu Jiang’s estuary on the southern coast of China and shares borders with the Guangdong province and the South China Sea. The special administrative area’s total land area of 426 square miles is comprised of Hong Kong Island, the southern region of the Kowloon Peninsula, Ngong Shuen Island, the New Territories, as well as 230 small and large offshore islands. Hong Kong is quite popular as a tourist and research destination.

Hong Kong can be a worthwhile location to study abroad and attain higher education. To begin with, while the country does have a relatively limited list of institutions of higher education, it does compensate by having each of the universities properly accredited and internationally recognized, including the City University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong Baptist University, the Lingnan University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University Of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, all of which are featured in the 2020 QS World University Rankings. In addition, students can select from a broad range of study programs such as Architecture, Dentistry, Arts, Business, Economy, Education, Law & Jurisprudence, Medicine, Engineering, Humanities, and others. Furthermore, Hong Kong is a suitable location to practice Chinese and English as these tongues are the official languages of the administrative region. However, one should bear in mind that tuition fees can be costly, therefore proper planning and research should be conducted. In addition, a student visa may be necessary in order to enter the country and the procedure can take a while.
