Lithuania

Lithuania, alternatively known as the Republic of Lithuania, is an independent country in North Europe, one of the three Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia), and the southernmost and largest of the three. It is located on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea and shares borders with Latvia, Belarus, Poland and Russia via its Kaliningrad region. The terrain of the country consists of gently rolling hills, large forests, streams, rivers and lakes. The capital and largest city in the country is Vilnius. Lithuania is a member of several international organizations including the European Union.

Lithuania should be considered a location to study abroad due to several reasons. The country has a relatively expansive list of institutions of higher education with popular selections being the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, the Vytautas Magnus University, the Vilnius University, and the Kaunas University of Technology. Likewise, the country provides a wide selection of subjects which can be studied including Business, Management, Engineering, Information Technologies, Sociology, Communication, Law & Jurisprudence, Economics, Arts, and Tourism. Furthermore, the country is a suitable location to practice and learn foreign languages such as Lithuanian, Latvian and English, with the latter being an available option for many programs in the institutions of higher education. However, there are several factors that one should not overlook lest they become a hindrance. To begin with, students may need a visa to study in the country. Also, tuition fees can vary greatly based on the choice university, therefore proper research should be done in advance.
