Mauritius, officially known as the Republic of Mauritius, is an independent island country located in the Indian Ocean, off the eastern coast of Africa. It is a part of the Mascarene Islands and lies of about 500 miles east of Madagascar and includes the islands Rodrigues, Agaléga and Saint Brandon. The capital and main port of the country is Port Louis, a city located between a semicircle of mountains and a well-sheltered, deep-water harbor, accessible through a break in the coral reef. The country’s form of government is a republic with one legislative house and is among the popular tourist destinations.

Mauritius can be a worthwhile location when it comes to studying abroad and obtaining an academic degree. This is due to several contributing factors including an extensive range of available universities and subjects, as well as the affordability of its standard of living in addition to the opportunity to participate in internships as well as to practice foreign languages such as English. Mauritius has a relatively extensive list of available and accredited universities including the University of Mauritius, the Analysis Institute of Management and others. In addition, Mauritius’ institutions of higher education provide a broad range of subjects which can be studied, including Management, Information Technology, Dentistry, Medicine, Tourism, Engineering, Design, and Psychology. Also, Mauritius’ official language is English, a tongue that is also used for many of the programs available in the institutions of higher education.
