Russia, officially known as Rossiyskaya Federatsiya/the Russian Federation or Rossia, is a sovereign country that encompasses a large expanse of North Asia and East Europe. It has a total land area of 6,612,000 square miles, which includes a diverse terrain such as tundra, arctic wastelands, forests and others. It is the location of Europe’s longest river, largest and deepest lakes, the Volga, the Ladoga and the Baikal, respectively. It is also the location of the largest lake in the world, the Caspian Sea. Russia has coastlines on the Arctic and Pacific oceans, and on the Baltic Sea. It shares borders with the countries of Poland, Lithuania, North Korea, China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, and Norway. The capital of the country is Moscow, alternatively known as Moskva.
