Switzerland, officially known as the Swiss Federation/Confédération Suisse/Schweizerische Eidgenossenschaft/Confederazione Svizzera/Confederaziun Svizra, is a sovereign federated country in Central Europe. The country has two de facto capitals with Bern as the administrative center, while Lausanne acts as its judicial center. It is a landlocked country of diverse terrain as it includes within its total land area deep Alpine lakes, mountains of great heights, and grassy valleys. The country shares its borders with the sovereign states of France, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Italy.
Switzerland is a frequently-visited and often-recommended tourist destination. However, it can also be considered a suitable destination to study abroad and obtain an academic degree. To begin with, the country has an extensive list of accredited and internationally recognized institutions of higher education, including ETH Zurich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, University of Zurich, University of Geneva, University of Bern, University of Basel, University of Lausanne, and University of St. Gallen, all of which are featured in the 2020 World University Rankings. Similarly, a wide range of subjects can be studied, including Business, Management, Arts, Education, Administration, Information Technologies, Economics, Computer Science, Finance & Banking, and International Relations. In addition, the country is a suitable location to practice and learn English, French, and German as these three tongues are the country’s official languages. Furthermore, students can participate in volunteer and internship programs, especially in the fields of International Relations, Medicine, Business, Marketing, Design, and Education. However, students should bear in mind that tuition fees can vary greatly.
